1. Under the Sea
Learn how to move an image around the screen. Introductory lesson to Scratch and a step by step guide of how to use the online program. Learn what a sprite is, how to make one, how to add in a background and how to move it around using simple instructions.
2. In the Jungle
Learn how to glide and make a sprite move smoothly across the stage. The X and Y coordinates are important to move a sprite around. Use these skills and a rotation skill o make a simple jungle story.
3. Ole Medieval Times
Change the look of a sprite by changing its costume. Use simple blocks and simple user interaction to change the costume over and over again using the forever block. Then add sound from the library. This sound can enhance an animation.
4. At the Bottom of the Garden
Find out what the green flag is used for and how to stop the program. You will then be able to draw shapes using the pen tool. Experiment with this tool, the colour and size of the pen. Introduces the students to loops and the repeat functions.
5. Heroes and Villains
Paint your own superhero or villain. Then you will be able to move the sprites around using keyboard buttons. The IF statement and the sensing blocks are important to add in conditions to this simple game. If this happens then another thing should occur.
6. Into Space and Beyond
Again use the IF statement to add in conditions plus also program a simple game with simple keyboard interactions from the player. This lesson introduces the students to variables, an important computing term and method. You can therefore count the amount of stars that they have collected.
